Join NatureScot as an Operations Officer - North. NatureScot is Scotland’s Nature Agency, working with partners to address the climate and nature emergencies.
The National Operations (North) team is seeking two permanent Operations Officers to help deliver priorities relating to nature recovery, climate change, and the creation of nature-rich places.
Job Purpose Summary
The posts cover a diverse range of tasks, including provision of advice on land management, protected areas, and development proposals. The roles include:
* Acting as the lead contact for protected areas in Moray and north Aberdeenshire
* Providing advice on management of protected areas and encouraging funding applications for positive management
* Carrying out monitoring of protected areas and ensuring monitoring database accuracy
* Providing advice on applications to the Nature Restoration Fund and the Scottish Rural Development Programme’s Agri-Environment Climate Scheme
* Responding to casework, including planning, forestry, marine, and other consultations
* Contributing to NatureScot’s input to Moray’s Local Development Plan and other strategic plans
* Providing advice and support to Moray Council on its Nature Networks programme
* Triaging and allocating casework
Role Requirements
The successful candidates will have:
* Understanding of peatland restoration
* Knowledge of habitats, species, and landscapes in north-east Scotland and their vulnerability to climate change, development, and land management
* Ability to critically assess information, identify issues, and develop solutions
* High standard of written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to engage effectively with partners and stakeholders from various sectors and backgrounds
* Ability to work well in a dispersed team and undertake field work
* A relevant higher education degree or equivalent qualification with transferable skills
* Driving licence or alternative means of transport
Prerequisites
Candidates must:
* Be eligible to live and work in the UK and resident in Scotland for the duration of the job contract
* Undertake a Disclosure Scotland application
* Although not required, Gaelic language skills are desirable in support of NatureScot’s Gaelic Language Plan
