Main duties of the job
Responsible for providing professional care & treatment of patients at all times.
Participate in on call General Medicine rota that includes weekend working. Currently the rota is a 1 in 18 but this may reduce over the next year as part of developments taking place in Medicine.
Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as "Duties of a Doctor", "Good Medical Practice" & the "GMC Performance Procedures."

Job responsibilities
* The post is offered on a full-time basis; flexible working may be considered after discussion with the Clinical Director and depending on service needs.
* The post holder will be part of the Consultant Respiratory Physician team, providing a respiratory inpatient and outpatient service.
* To develop the Respiratory services and participate in multidisciplinary meetings in relation to service improvement.
* We are looking to strengthen clinical pathways between primary, secondary and specialist community care to provide a truly integrated high quality respiratory service.
* The post holder may therefore be expected to support the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager with business cases for various service developments.
* Subspecialty interests are encouraged and subspecialty leads will typically attract additional 0.25 SPA.
* Newly appointed consultant staff will be given appropriate support within their role. This includes opportunities for the successful post holder to access appropriate clinical/peer mentoring.
* Contribute to the General Medical on-call Rota.
* Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
* Conduct teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.
* Participate in audit, clinical governance, annual job plan, and appraisal.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MRCP or Equivalent
* On Specialist Register
* Higher Medical Degree or Bioimedical degree (MD or PhD) or previous research experience
Clinical Experience/Skills
* Demonstrable competence in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine
* Substantial experience in Respiratory, Ability to provide an expert opinion and to work as an independent practitioner in Respiratory Medicine
* Ability to set up or develop a specialist service
Research
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
* Experience of research related to Respiratory Medicine
* Evidence of ongoing participation in research
MANAGEMENT/LEADERSHIP/QUALITY
* Experience in performing clinical audit
* Demonstrable leadership and management experience
* Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
Teaching
* Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
* Have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups or staff.
* Completed a teaching course
