Job Description - SCIENTIST II (T228867)
We are seeking a Scientist II to support research in the laboratories of Drs. J. Victor Garcia and Angela Wahl in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Our team works with academia, government, and industry to develop and use precision animal models to study the immune system and pathogen interactions, funded by NIH, private foundations, and federal contracts. Research areas include HIV Persistence and Cure, HIV Transmission and Prevention, the Microbiome, and pathogen-host interactions including COVID-19 and TB.
This position involves supporting daily lab activities, designing and troubleshooting experiments, analyzing data, training staff, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining equipment, and responding to emergencies.
General Responsibilities:
* Employ broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in the field.
* Plan, design, conduct research, and present findings.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $74,100 - $120,700
Qualifications:
* PhD, D.V.M., or M.D. in a related field with 4 years of experience, OR
* M.D. with Master's and 2 years of experience, OR
* Master's with 6 years of experience, OR
* Bachelor's with 8 years of experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education.
Preferences:
* PhD in life sciences + 10 years research experience preferred.
