Overview
Senior Staff Nurse - Surrey Downs H&C role at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. NHS AfC: Band 6. Main area: Surrey Downs Health and Care. Site: Dorking Community Hospital, Dorking. Contract: Permanent. Hours: 37.5 hours per week (long shifts: 07:30 - 20:30 or 20:00 - 08:00; short days: 07:30 - 15:30 or 12:30 - 20:30 over a 7-day week).
Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise ward staff, deputise for the Ward Manager, and provide skilled nursing care to patients with frailty and rehabilitation needs.
* Assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care, set and maintain standards, and deploy staff as appropriate.
* Facilitate educational programmes for basic, post-basic and in-service training in collaboration with the Learning and Development Team.
* Support patient-focused, innovative research-based practice in line with Surrey Downs Health and Care objectives.
* Provide clinical leadership and continuity of care across clinical settings, ensuring effective communication and timely planning.
* Ensure documentation is accurate, contemporaneous, and in line with Surrey Downs Health and Care procedures.
* Promote safeguarding and liaise with safeguarding teams and social services as required.
* Participate in clinical governance, risk management, audits, and Datix investigations as part of the Clinical Governance Strategy.
* Contribute to staff recruitment and selection, performance appraisals, and supervision; identify training needs and foster a positive learning environment.
* Manage resources and budget, monitor consumables, and support the team lead with delegated tasks.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
* 1st level nursing registration
* Evidence of continued professional development post-registration
Desirable criteria
* Educated to Level 3
* Experience of team management and multi-disciplinary working
* Awareness of current NHS issues
Skills
* Interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
* Ability to prioritise and manage competing demands
