Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our dynamic outpatient team at Medicana. As an Outpatient HCA, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals attending outpatient appointments. You will work under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to support patients during their outpatient visits, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist patients during their outpatient appointments, providing a welcoming and supportive environment.
* Take patient vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
* Support patients with personal care needs, including mobility assistance, dressing, and toileting, where necessary.
* Prepare treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-stocked.
* Assist healthcare professionals with procedures, examinations, and diagnostic tests, as directed.
* Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in line with hospital protocols and confidentiality standards.
* Prepare and assist with the administration of prescribed treatments and medications under the supervision of a qualified nurse.
* Monitor patients post-procedure, reporting any changes in condition to senior clinical staff promptly.
* Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients, particularly those who may be anxious or in distress.
* Ensure infection control practices are adhered to, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Assist with the preparation and movement of patients within the outpatient setting, including preparing them for transport if needed.
* Support the wider outpatient team in delivering high standards of patient care and service.
* Participate in staff training and development opportunities to maintain a high level of clinical competency.
Skills and Qualifications:
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) preferred.
* Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant, preferably in an outpatient or clinical setting.
* Strong understanding of patient care needs and the ability to offer emotional support.
* Basic knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with patients and families.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
* Understanding of infection control and health and safety protocols.
* Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and safeguarding.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and evenings, as required.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Previous experience in an outpatient clinic or hospital setting.
* Basic life support (BLS) or first aid training.
* Knowledge of electronic patient records (EPR) systems.
