Overview
Warehouse General Manager role at Alliance Healthcare, part of Cencora. This role supports Cencora's wholesale distribution services in Europe operating through Alliance Healthcare, based at the Central Logistics Centre (CLC) in Birmingham. The role reports to the Head of the Central Logistics Centre and oversees the daily operations of the warehouse to ensure efficient logistics and supply chain management for medical, health and beauty products.
The Central Logistics Centre (CLC) is Alliance Healthcare UK's new, next-generation, 24/7 logistics facility in Birmingham, designed with advanced automation and robotics. It aims to redefine how medical, health and beauty products are managed and delivered to customers across the UK. This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, leveraging automated systems, optimising processes and ensuring safe and accurate handling of inventory, working closely with the Transport General Manager to ensure smooth inbound and outbound deliveries.
Key focus areas include driving efficient operations within corporate guidelines and budget, delivering excellent customer care, and developing future leaders within the business.
Responsibilities
* Operational Leadership: Implement operational strategies to improve productivity and efficiency; prioritise actions to improve service and cost performance; collaborate with people leaders to foster a culture of continuous improvement; deputise for the Head of CLC when required.
* People Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop a multi-skilled operations team; coach and develop staff in line with Guiding Principles; foster a positive, collaborative environment; support learning and development with the L&D team; drive engagement and conduct regular performance reviews;
* Health, Safety and ESG: Promote a safe working environment; ensure compliance with health and safety regulations; champion HSE culture and lead ESG initiatives; conduct safety audits and risk assessments.
* Automation and IT: Support efficiency of automated systems; collaborate with IT, Knapp and technical teams to troubleshoot automation issues.
* Compliance: Ensure regulatory standards (GDP, MHRA, Home Office, ICO) are met; maintain SOP compliance and conduct regular audits.
* Inventory Management: Implement inbound/outbound procedures; manage inventory levels with Risk and Compliance and Inventory & Returns managers; ensure accurate handling and storage of products.
* Quality and Training: Maintain quality and accuracy in warehouse operations; support Quality team to secure product integrity; ensure staff training and adherence to procedures.
* Budget and Cost Control: Develop and manage warehouse budgets; monitor expenses and identify cost-saving initiatives; optimise headcount for service and productivity targets.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders; align warehouse operations with organizational goals; participate in cross-functional meetings; address operational issues and customer service queries promptly.
* Health, Safety and On-Call: On-call for emergency orders; weekend rota may be required; full driving licence required; flexibility as needed.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience Required
* Proven experience in warehouse operations management with significant leadership responsibility in an automated warehouse within a set budget.
* Track record in designing and delivering projects to stabilise and develop warehouse operations.
* Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills for leading large, complex 24/7 operations.
* Experience leading teams in fast-moving, changing environments.
* Ability to work in a warehouse environment (standing/walking for long periods, lifting/moving materials, varying temperatures).
* Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and automated technologies; strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and related software.
* Pharmaceutical industry experience and regulatory/compliance knowledge preferred.
* Analytical skills with data-driven approach to KPIs and performance metrics; strong attention to detail and problem-solving.
* Ability to build strong cross-departmental relationships and collaborate effectively.
* Excellent organizational abilities.
Additional Information
* Some UK travel required with overnight stays; occasional meetings outside normal hours, including evenings and weekends.
* Mandatory GDP training per SOP and ongoing refresher training; other GDP training as per personal training matrix.
* All people leaders at the Central Logistics Centre are on-call for emergency orders.
* Full driving licence required; weekend working rota may be required; flexibility may be needed.
