Job Description:
CMVM / Institute for Regeneration and Repair / Centre for Inflammation Research
Full-time: 35 hours per week
Fixed Term: 2 years
We are looking for a talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Baillie Laboratory at the Baillie Gifford Pandemic Science Hub at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research using genomic data to understand why critically ill patients respond differently to infection. Your work will contribute to identifying therapeutic targets with the potential to improve patient outcomes.
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
The Opportunity:
You will take a leading role in the analysis of host-response genomics in large patient cohorts, including those from recent and ongoing Covid-19 studies. Working with clinical outcome data, you will perform genome-wide and transcriptome-wide association studies and contribute to our understanding of disease susceptibility and treatment response in critically ill patients. This role offers the chance to work in a data-rich environment alongside an experienced and collaborative team at the forefront of medical genetics.
Your skills and attributes for success:
* A PhD with a strong quantitative component, particularly population genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics or probabilistic machine learning and computer science.
* Experience of working with large genotyping or sequencing data sets
* A proven ability to think critically about scientific analysis in order to ensure robust results
* Computational skills to include experience of using a statistical package (e.g., R, MATLAB or Python)
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to manage the day-to-day running of a research project
