Senior Pharmacy Assistant - Aseptic Services
Job summary: To assist in providing a high-quality, patient-focused aseptic service. Ensure all products are aseptically prepared following SOPs, GMP, and relevant guidelines.
Job responsibilities:
Key Tasks
Production
1. Responsible for start and end of day procedures, including reading and recording HEPA filter and pressure gauges.
2. Prepare and dispense preparations using aseptic techniques and GMP, including cytotoxic drugs and monoclonal antibodies.
3. Participate in dispensing parenteral nutrition (PN) and Methotrexate per approved protocols.
4. Complete booking out and filing of PN, chemotherapy, and trial paperwork.
5. Manage stock levels of chemotherapy and supportive drugs, supervising stock movement.
6. Top up supplies of equipment, materials, and consumables.
7. Supervise monitoring processes with settle and contact plates, labeling appropriately.
8. Supervise cleaning procedures and staff training, ensuring stock of cleaning materials.
9. Manage garment collection for Microclean.
10. Order supplies via SupplyChain and Powergate.
11. Participate in dispensing oral chemotherapy and supportive medication.
12. Assist in coordinating activities of other staff within the aseptic unit.
13. Supply emergency extravasation boxes, ensuring expiry compliance.
14. Handle cytotoxic/monoclonal medication and waste disposal per COSHH guidelines.
Dispensary
1. Dispense prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients following guidelines.
2. Perform receptionist duties, including customer service and payment processing.
3. Maintain stock rotation, expiry checks, and storage standards.
Distribution
1. Issue ward stock items from picking lists under supervision.
2. Ensure prompt issuance of follow-up items.
3. Assist with returning drugs and delivering controlled substances.
4. Participate in ward top-up services and assist in booking received goods.
Additional Duties
1. Perform receptionist duties as needed.
2. Ensure statutory and Trust policy compliance.
3. Complete mandatory training and competencies.
4. Undertake other duties as directed.
5. Represent the pharmaceutical service positively.
6. Assist in training staff.
7. Attend training and meetings as appropriate.
8. Participate in appraisals.
