This post is for an ST1/2 junior doctor based at Northwick Park Hospital.
The appointee will be required to undertake all aspects of clinical care within this very busy department, supporting the consultants in the management of the gynaecological elective and emergency workload. You will work in a demanding but supportive environment with access to a wide variety of clinical caseloads.
Following the closure of the maternity unit at Ealing, obstetric care is based at Northwick Park and includes high‑risk patients with diverse medical conditions. The department handles approximately 6,000 bookings and 5,000 deliveries yearly, with specialised clinics for diabetes, maternal medicine, haematological conditions and multiple pregnancy. The labour ward has 98 hours of consultant presence and additional on‑call cover, separate from gynaecology consultant cover. Ante‑natal clinics are held at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex. The high‑risk delivery suite includes dedicated theatres, an HDU, triage, an observation bay and a recovery unit, with a midwifery‑led ward for low‑risk women and water births.
The emergency gynaecology workload has increased with the reconfiguration of emergency departments across North West London. The department features an emergency gynaecology/early pregnancy unit at Northwick Park and an early pregnancy unit at Ealing Hospital. Acute pelvic sepsis is common and emergency theatre cases vary, providing experience in managing such conditions.
The rota is Band 1a and compliant with the EWTD.
In clinics, the ST1/2 will be allocated new patients and supervised as part of the learning process.
In theatre, the role of the ST1/2 is educational; they may assist and will be encouraged to learn procedures in greater detail.
In the labour ward, the ST1/2 will be part of the multidisciplinary team providing care for women in labour, on antenatal and post‑natal wards, and in day‑care.
The advert closes on Monday 11 May 2026.
