IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Senior Sustainability Engineer / Consultant to join our established team based at our office located in Birmingham, UK.

As our new Senior Sustainability Engineer, you will be part of a growing global sustainability team, working on international projects within the life sciences sector. You will leverage opportunities in capital project planning, design, and construction phases to achieve measurable KPIs aimed at reducing energy, emissions, water, and waste.
You should be technically and analytically minded, able to articulate ideas and concepts, using research of proven strategies and the latest technologies to guide colleagues and partners toward innovative solutions. Understanding change management and being able to defend ideas to earn buy-in from colleagues and clients is essential.
Responsibilities
* Represent the IPS Sustainability function on capital projects, including facilitating goal setting and managing project work plans for yourself and junior team members across design and/or construction.
* Collaborate with project teams to identify opportunities and feasibility for sustainable design, construction, and operational strategies, focusing on energy/emissions, water, materials, waste, and health & wellbeing.
* Be a generalist in sustainability topics affecting the built environment, with sufficient technical knowledge to manage quantitative deliverables.
* Serve as a subject matter expert in at least several focus areas such as energy, waste management, or materials.
* Undertake LEED and/or BREEAM assessments from feasibility to final commissioning for commercial and industrial schemes.
* Manage design teams and deliverables for rating systems like LEED and BREEAM.
* Understand and apply current and upcoming sustainability-related legislation (building and planning regulations).
* Research the latest advances in sustainable technologies for building design, construction, and manufacturing processes.
* Organize information collaboratively, collecting and developing lessons learned and case studies.
* Support the training, development, and growth of junior team members.
Qualifications & Requirements
* 10+ years of industry experience in design, engineering, consulting, project management, or construction.
* 7+ years of experience in a sustainability-focused role.
* Experience in the life sciences or manufacturing/industrial sectors.
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
* LEED/BREEAM Assessor – minimum of five projects completed through to certification.
* Experience in energy analysis and evaluating sustainable material attributes.
* Experience in waste management and infrastructure.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for client-facing interactions.
* Enthusiastic, resilient, innovative, and technically grounded.
Valued (but not required):
* Chartership (CEng or CEnv) with CIBSE, IMechE, IEMA, or similar, or working towards it.
* Master’s Degree or relevant advanced training.
* WELL AP or Fitwel Ambassador certification.
* LCA Assessor.
* Energy modeling experience.
* Experience with Revit and other CAD tools.
