As an English Teacher, your responsibilities will include more than planning and marking you will be shaping the expressive and analytical thinkers of the future. Key responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities:
* Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver a rich and engaging English curriculum across Key Stages, covering essential reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills in line with the national curriculum.
* Effective Instruction: Use creative teaching strategies, modern technology, and varied literary texts to inspire student engagement and promote a lifelong love of reading and writing.
* Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Evaluate student progress using a range of assessments such as essays, creative writing tasks, exams, and oral presentations, while providing constructive feedback to support improvement.
* Literacy Development: Promote literacy across the whole school, encouraging students to develop confident communication skills and strong vocabulary.
* Classroom Management: Maintain high expectations for behaviour and foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment that supports active participation and collaboration.
* Continuous Professional Growth: Stay up to date with changes in English education and assessment, sharing best practices and contributing to the school’s ongoing improvement.
The successful English Teacher will have:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent PGCE, BA/BEd with QTS in English).
* Previous experience teaching English within a secondary school environment.
* Excellent subject knowledge of English Language and/or English Literature curriculum.
* Strong communication and classroom management skills.
* Ability to inspire students and build strong relationships with young learners.
* DBS registered with the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
