Overview
Principal EIA Consultant role at AECOM, Manchester, United Kingdom. The position involves managing environmental inputs to large-scale infrastructure development projects and contributing to the UK’s net zero commitments. You will work with the Environmental Impact (EIA) team across the UK & Ireland, support multiple consenting regimes, and contribute to projects from strategy through to operation and maintenance.
Responsibilities
* Provide Expertise: Manage environmental inputs to EIA screening and scoping reports, Environmental Statements (and future Environmental Outcomes Reports) and supporting documents; review specialist chapters; participate across project life cycles from strategy to operation; work across multiple consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill, etc.).
* Ensure Quality: Deliver high-quality outputs consistent with quality management procedures.
* Project Management: Manage resources and budgets with relevant support as applicable.
* Collaborate: Integrate with design teams to improve environmental outcomes; identify constraints, mitigation solutions, and opportunities for benefits.
* Client Contact: Manage client relationships and internal supply teams.
* Growth: Promote AECOM’s environmental services and lead business development, including fee and technical proposal development.
What you’ll need
* Experience providing consultancy services and managing multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure projects.
* Excellent understanding of EIA processes, environmental assessment methods, and applicable planning legislation; knowledge of relevant consenting/licensing regimes.
* Confidence engaging with diverse stakeholder groups; ability to coordinate inputs from specialist teams.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical reviewing.
* Project management skills, including programming, resource management, and budget control.
* Degree in a relevant environmental discipline (Masters preferred) and professional membership; willingness to travel.
Desired qualifications
* Chartered Environmentalist status (preferred).
* Interest in line management and mentoring; experience with DCO and/or TWAO regimes (preferred).
