The Arnewood school is looking to appoint a Science Technician to support this core subject in the school. In the first instance, support will be focused on preparation and provision of equipment and materials to enable pupils to undertake science learning activities, projects and examination work. A willingness to learn and the ability to problem solve is required.
The successful candidate for this post would start as soon as possible.
The Arnewood Science department is a vibrant and dedicated team who work closely to deliver an exciting and challenging curriculum to develop and inspire ambitious Scientific learners.
The Science department is comprised of 11 passionate scientists, supported by 2 Science technicians and housed in well-appointed labs.
The specialisms of Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught to all students through Yr7to Yr11. At sixth-form A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics are available to students with the correct experience.
Principal Responsibilities:
· Assist staff and the students as requested to facilitate learning in the subject and maintain health and safety standards.
· Carry out risk assessments within the department to identify any potential hazards or risks.
· Maintenance and adjustment of all science equipment and recording of checks via the schools 'Safety system'.
· Undertake any training that the school deems necessary or desirable.
· Order materials and resources as required under the direction of the head of department. Check invoices, take in deliveries and maintain an inventory system for items within the department.
· Producing Teaching aids and updating displays and visual material around the department. This includes assisting with preparation and setting up displays, for events in other areas of the school.
· Maintaining H&S records via the school's system, including work Equipment checks, Risk Assessment, COSHH, LEV and site audits.
· Developing the infrastructure of facilities of the department as required.
· Prepare stock and equipment for school project work as directed and to ensure lessons are well resourced and prepared for.
· Ensuring work areas and the technician room are kept clean, tidy and well organise.
· Assist with the development of resources for teaching aids to support students.
· Accompany staff on educational visits.
· Attend any meetings held within the working hours that are appropriate to the position.
· Be willing to collaborate with other staff around the school.
· Be supportive of the development of the department
The role is 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term time only. No experience is necessary as full training will be given. This is a temporary role to cover maternity leave, initially until 31st December 2025, which may be extended.
