This is an exciting and new role within the prison and a fundamental part of Mitie's vision for establishing a restorative and rehabilitative culture at HMP Millsike for both staff and prisoners.
This psychology-based discipline involves exploring principles of learning and behaviour to support individuals in making meaningful changes. It includes identifying measurable goals and implementing evidence-based interventions to help individuals develop new skills and reduce challenging behaviours. The role will support prison staff and prisoners in understanding the functionality of certain behaviours and creating strategies to reduce or minimise these behaviours, increasing engagement with the prison regime. Behaviours of interest include disruptive behaviours, violence, self-harming behaviours, and harmful behaviours related to personality disorders (diagnosed or undiagnosed). The successful candidate will collaborate with the psychology team to inform and support operational staff in managing complex behaviours.
Person Specification
The candidate must be registered and certified with a professional body such as the UK-SBA or BCBA. They should hold a recognised qualification like an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis or Behaviour Analysis and Therapy, or be within 6 months of completing such a qualification. Excellent communication skills are essential for co-creating support plans with operational staff and other service providers. Skills in risk assessment, working within multidisciplinary teams, being proactive, training and upskilling staff, and enabling staff to implement care plans are required.
