Quality or Technical Supervisor
Location: Thirsk, North Yorkshire YO7
Salary: £33,000–£35,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week (fully onsite – hybrid working not available)
Commutable from Thirsk, York, Ripon, Middlesborough, Northallerton, Boroughbridge
The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality or Technical Supervisor to join a busy Quality and Technical team based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring product quality, compliance, and continuous improvement through testing, auditing, investigation, and quality assurance activities.
This position is ideal for a quality professional with experience in a food, feed, manufacturing, or similar regulated environment who is passionate about maintaining high standards and driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct product and environmental quality testing, including NIR testing where applicable.
* Collect and manage samples for internal and external laboratory analysis.
* Arrange the transfer of samples to external laboratories.
* Record and report testing results, highlighting issues promptly.
* Carry out trend analysis and prepare statistical and quality performance reports.
* Manage non-conforming products and returns, ensuring appropriate recording, investigation, and corrective actions.
* Investigate customer complaints, identify root causes, and support resolution processes.
* Complete product traceability exercises and support audit requirements.
* Review and improve quality processes, procedures, and systems.
* Maintain quality documentation and document control systems.
* Support external audits and regulatory compliance activities.
* Conduct internal quality, housekeeping, and compliance audits.
* Report audit findings and support corrective action implementation.
* Coordinate calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
About You
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in a quality-focused role.
* Experience working with external laboratories.
* Knowledge of feed testing techniques (NIR) would be advantageous.
* Understanding of HACCP principles would be beneficial.
* Previous experience within a food, feed, manufacturing, or similar environment is desirable.
* Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem-solving.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset.
* Flexible, adaptable, and results-driven.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
