What is Building Services Engineering?
We at Buro Happold work as part of a global team, balancing client aspirations with engineering and often budgetary constraints, to design high‑performance, low‑energy building systems. Our advanced modelling techniques analyse the building envelope and floor layouts. Our innovative systems are integrated into the fabric, creating functional internal spaces and balanced, controllable conditions.
What sort of projects would I work on?
You may work as a mechanical designer in a large project team or as a project engineer on smaller schemes. Recent examples include: NOMA 4 Angel Square, BASE Building at Manchester Science Park, the School of Digital Arts at Manchester Met, Space Studios and the new Everton FC stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in Liverpool.
What will I do?
* Embrace the latest technologies to improve performance and sustainability.
* Undertake detailed mechanical engineering building services design and calculations.
* Ensure service and project work are carried out to an excellent standard – within agreed deadlines and budget.
* Prepare technical specifications and schedules, design development reports and innovative design solutions.
* Plan and manage input to CAD for production of design work.
* Represent Buro Happold at meetings with clients, other professionals and suppliers.
Qualifications
* Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Building Services/MEP Engineering.
* Internship experience at an engineering firm preferred and proven interest in the built environment.
