Job Title: PMLD Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Daily Rate: £85 – £105 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-time or part-time, Flexible / Temp-to-Perm Opportunities Available
Start Date: September 2025
About the Role:
We are currently seeking caring and proactive Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in specialist and inclusive settings across Wakefield. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with learners who have complex needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and severe learning difficulties. You will work closely with teachers and therapists to provide tailored, person-centred support that promotes communication, independence, and wellbeing.
Responsibilities:
Support individual pupils with daily routines, learning tasks, and sensory activities
Provide personal care and medical support where required (training provided)
Implement communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, and AAC tools
Assist in delivering adapted curriculum activities in a creative and accessible way
Promote inclusion, emotional regulation, and engagement through positive support
Work collaboratively with class teachers, therapists, and families to meet EHCP targets
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex needs
A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
Understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
Ability to use or willingness to learn communication aids and sensory strategies
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
