Trainee High Intensity Therapist – Newcastle/Teeside

The Role
You will join the Newcastle Talking Therapies service as a Trainee High Intensity Therapist (HIT) within the January 2026 cohort at Teesside University. The course is a one‑year PG Dip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (part‑time option available). This is a fixed‑term, 12‑month role.
Typical working week: 3 days clinical practice with the service, 2 days university, including one study day. University training is hybrid (remote and face‑to‑face). Clinical practice includes remote work, but you will attend the Newcastle office part of the week.
You will provide NICE‑recommended High Intensity CBT interventions for clients with moderate to severe common mental health disorders and receive weekly supervision from the university and workplace.
After successful completion, you may apply for a permanent post to contribute to a dynamic, innovative service.
Getting to Know You
The trainee position is aimed at mental health professionals who have experience in CBT and who continue to work in a mental health environment.

* Clinical or Counselling Psychological Therapists
* Mental Health Nurses
* Psychotherapists
* Counsellors
* Occupational Therapists
* Social Workers
* Public Health Workers (PWPs) – with two years post‑qualification experience
Applicants without recognised core mental health training may apply, provided they can demonstrate at interview that they meet the KSA requirements set by the BABCP.
Essential Requirements
* Recognition of a professional qualification in a relevant mental health profession
* Experience in CBT and working in a mental health setting
* Legal entitlement to work in the UK and DBS check
Desirable Requirements
* Particular experience with high intensity CBT interventions
* Previous exposure to university‑based training or further CPD in CBT
