The purpose of this post is to provide specialist Occupational Therapy rehabilitation intervention for patients on Ward 3 at GDH, the Neuro Rehab Centre (NRC), and to offer cover when needed on the Orthopaedic wards.
The post aims to support effective discharge planning as part of a wider MDT. You would be expected to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, ensuring the service delivers excellent care to patients.
Ward 3 provides rehabilitation for patients who have an identified rehabilitation goal but also require sub-acute medical care. The NRC is a 14-bed sub-acute neuro-rehabilitation unit providing specialist therapy to patients following neurological trauma, injury, or illness. Ward 6 provides elective orthopaedic surgery.
The role is ideally suited for an experienced Band 6 Therapist or a Band 5 aspiring to progress into a more senior role. Development opportunities are available, with support to achieve work-based competencies to progress from Band 5 to Band 6.
Participation in the 7-day working rota is expected.
Main duties of the job
1. Perform advanced Occupational Therapy assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, using advanced clinical reasoning to diagnose and develop individualized treatment plans.
2. Manage own caseload and a defined area of the service independently.
3. Supervise, educate, and assess students, assistants, and Band 5 staff; provide specialized advice to other healthcare professionals in the clinical area.
4. Undertake evidence-based audits and research to develop clinical practice and service areas; make recommendations for practice changes and lead or contribute to service protocol development.

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Relevant accredited courses or equivalent experience
* HCPC registration (or to be completed within 6 months)
* Evidence of Masters-level study
Occupational Experience and Abilities
* Minimum 1 year postgraduate experience in core clinical areas
* Evidence of CPD activities related to the clinical area
* Specific experience relevant to the role
Knowledge and Skills
* Experience supervising students/staff
* Involvement in Quality Improvement activities, such as audits or service development
* Experience supporting staff/students with HR processes like absence and performance management
