Working closely with assessing practitioners, providers, hospitals and community health partners, you'll promote the best outcomes for people following a hospital admission. The work is fast paced and success in this role depends on working efficiently under pressure, responding to shifting priorities and maintaining a flexible approach.

What You Will Be Doing

* Complete occupational therapy assessments in multiple settings across South Gloucestershire. Develop and maintain close working relationships with service users, their families and formal carers.
* Carry out manual handling risk assessments, including considerations for single‑handed care, and develop tailored manual handling plans to ensure safety and compliance.
* Support the wider team to be effective in their interventions using task analysis, provision of equipment, assistive technologies, home environment assessments and minor housing adaptations.
* Make recommendations for a significant budget spend, ensuring maximum value from resources deployed.
* Manage a caseload with regular supervision and support, working alongside colleagues in a strength‑based approach aligned to the Three Conversations model.
* Advise and inform individuals and carers about available services, including those under the Care Act.

As an Advanced Occupational Therapist

* Support students on placement as an experience practitioner.
* Stay fully up to date with core training expectations.
* Use research and evidence‑based resources to enhance practice and share learning with the team.

What We Need From You

* Professional occupational therapy qualification (Dip COT, BSc Honours OT or equivalent) and registration with the Health Professionals Council.
* Relevant experience of working in a hospital, community, voluntary or agency setting providing occupational therapy services.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation relevant to social services occupational therapy.
* Experience managing complex cases and excellent assessment skills.
* Excellent time‑management to meet service requirements.

Advanced Occupational Therapist Requirements

* Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience.
* Evidence of meeting the essential criteria for the Advanced Occupational Therapist role at South Gloucestershire Council.
* Commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

What You Need To Know

* Salary ranges:
o Occupational Therapist: £37,280 – £39,152
o Advanced Occupational Therapist: £40,777 – £44,075
* For the Advanced Occupational Therapist role, clearly detail required evidence in your application.
* Travel expectations: you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular vehicle access or alternative travel means.
* Business insurance must be added to your insurance policy.
* Mileage expenses can be claimed.
* Hybrid role with opportunities for remote work subject to case load requirements.
* Enhanced DBS check is mandatory.

Interviews are anticipated 21st January 2026.
