We’re partnering with a leading retail operation in Cross Hands to recruit an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager for a maternity cover position. This pivotal role offers both strategic and hands-on responsibility, supporting the site leadership team in maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. Reporting directly to the Site Director and working closely with the UK Head of Health & Safety, the successful candidate will play a key role in driving performance against HSE objectives and ensuring alignment with corporate standards. Key Responsibilities: * Provide expert guidance on health, safety, fire, and environmental legislation * Support site leadership in achieving HSE KPIs and continuous improvement goals * Lead and advise on risk assessments across the site, including Manual Handling, COSHH, Fire, and DSE * Develop and implement safe working procedures tailored to site operations * Investigate incidents thoroughly, offering practical solutions to prevent recurrence * Assess training needs and maintain role-specific HSE training matrices * Monitor emergency protocols and fire safety compliance for staff, visitors, and contractors * Conduct monthly site inspections and recommend corrective actions * Deliver internal HSE training sessions as required * Manage RIDDOR reporting and liaise with HSE authorities when necessary * Facilitate site health & safety committee meetings and contribute to strategic planning * Maintain accurate accident and incident records, identifying trends and driving improvements * Ensure documentation is audit-ready for external inspections and regulatory reviews * Coordinate with insurers on civil claims and provide necessary documentation * Oversee first aid provision, including training and supply management * Support maintenance teams with statutory inspections and ensure equipment safety * Manage contractor compliance and permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities * Monitor environmental permit adherence and respond to corrective actions * Prepare for ISO environmental audits and inspections by regulatory bodies Candidate Profile: * Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior HSE role, ideally within food manufacturing * NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent qualification * Strong commercial awareness and risk management capability * Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills * Proficient in producing detailed reports and interpreting data This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
