As a Waste Crime Triage Officer, you will work in our Area Enforcement Team dealing with waste crime across the Hertfordshire and North London Area. This role involves co-ordinating our frontline response to reports of waste crime triage.
The Triage Officer role will primarily be administrative and will involve:
* Desk-based research
* Triage risk assessments for waste-related activity
* Tasking of Field Officers and associated follow-up work
* Liaising with internal staff, members of the public and professional partners such as Local Authorities
* Grading and inputting intelligence reports onto our enforcement database
* Providing administrative support to officers and tracking/creating data on reports sent to the team
* Managing our evidence store, ensuring the correct evidence logging processes for all teams across HNL
* Administration and record retention
* Occasional site visits to support officers and support days of action with full team attendance
You will be encouraged to be innovative and proactive in your approach, in particular looking for opportunities to do things more efficiently. We receive a high volume of reports of illegal activity so the role will be busy with room for developing it further.
PLEASE NOTE – Due to the nature of the role and information, Level 2 Vetting NPPV2 checks will be required. These will be carried out once in post and required to complete the probation period successfully.
The Team
You’ll be part of a dedicated Enforcement Team specialising in dealing with serious and significant environmental crime. The team provides governance and ensures action is taken consistently and in accordance with EA procedures and crime priorities. We sit within "Regulated Industry", working closely with waste/water teams carrying out enforcement and regulation. We support our national colleagues on operations and support other area enforcement teams.
Experience / Skills required
* Essential: To have proven administrative skills in a busy environment.
* Essential: You will be highly organised with strong attention to detail.
* Essential: To have good communication skills focusing on internal and external customers.
* Essential: You will be able to manage yourself and prioritise your own work effectively.
* Essential: You will have strong experience of data and information management so you must be competent in using various IT applications including: MS Teams, Outlook, Microsoft Office etc.
* Desirable: An understanding of "intelligence", how to grade it, searching multiple databases and GDPR requirements when sharing data with partners.
* Desirable: Experience handling confidential and sensitive material.
* Desirable: Awareness of waste processes from start to finish and the organisations’ role in it as a regulator.
