Requirements
Pre-Employment Checks/Requirements for Teaching Positions
Employment is conditional on satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks, including medical screening, two references (one from your most recent employer), verification of qualifications, and eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are essential.
General Teaching Council Scotland
Applicants for permanent posts must be fully registered with GTCS. More information is available at: www.gtcs.org.uk
Regulated Work with Children
This role is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Applicants must not be barred from working with children. Successful candidates will need PVG Scheme membership, which involves a fee (£59 for full membership, £18 for record update) that will be deducted from salary over several pay periods. If employment ends before full repayment, the remaining balance will be deducted from final salary.
Disclosure of Offenses
Applicants should disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Failure to disclose may result in withdrawal of an offer. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify applicants; suitability depends on the nature of the offense and position.
