Radiology Appointment Supervisor Internal

Closing date: 23 June 2026

INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES ONLY

To provide radiology services across North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust at two main sites: Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, as well as three community sites – Keswick, Penrith and Workington. Services include general radiography, dental, fluoroscopy, angiography (incl. coronary), bone densitometry (DXA), CT, MRI and ultrasound facilities.

Referrals for radiological opinion come from a wide range of specialities typically encountered within a district general hospital, including 24‑hour emergencies. General and dental practitioners also refer patients into the service. The establishment includes consultant radiologists, a professional lead, radiographers, nurses, clerical and radiographic support staff.

Main duties of the job

* Process and manage patient information using computer‑based patient entry systems and manual files.
* Check for correct patient identification.
* Remain fully conversant with the clerical systems and processes within Radiology, ensuring personal accuracy for inputting data onto the Computerised Radiology Information System.
* Remain sufficiently conversant with radiology examinations to answer patient enquiries, seeking the advice of colleagues if a duty is outside your level of confidence and\/or competence.
* Develop an understanding of the radiological examinations and related preparation regimes that are relevant to the appointments.
* Make appointments for patients using the Radiology Information System.
* Use the Patient Administration System to order and track patient medical notes and check and update patient details.
* Explain radiology examinations to patients and put them at ease without reference to clinical staff, exercising judgement on when to counsel patients regarding their questions and fear of examinations.
* Communicate effectively with a range of people (e.g. patient transport services, the referrers team, patients and relatives) when co‑ordinating appointments.
* Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team that provides radiography services.
* Understand the hazards associated with radiology.
