The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced, saving lives and protecting people and community assets. They are paid for their services, receive thorough training, and learn emergency response skills as well as personal skills.
On-call firefighters come from all community areas, including full or part-time employment, self-employment, studying, or unemployment. They dedicate their time to assist the fire and rescue service and protect their communities.
This role is demanding but offers the chance to make a real contribution. You will work closely with team members, especially during emergencies, and participate in community events.
On-call firefighters respond to various situations beyond fires, such as community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience:
No prior experience is needed as training is provided. Key qualities include enthusiasm and meeting essential criteria. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly after being alerted, which requires physical fitness.
Note: To apply, you must live or work within 5 minutes of the Fire Station; applications from outside this area will be rejected.
