Head of Pathology IT Services
Closing date: 13 May 2026.
Hours: 37.5 per week, flexible working considered.
This role provides operational leadership for Pathology IT systems within the South Four (S4) network, ensuring 24/7 access to essential data and services for pathology users.
Main duties of the job
* Provide first‑line specialist Pathology IT support for Winpath Enterprise, ICE Desktop, eCare, Microsoft 365, Q Pulse and other systems.
* Coordinate with S4 network to standardise support and maintenance of LISM.
* Ensure readiness for MHRA and ISO 15189 inspections, updating documentation, QPulse, quality schemes, auditing, reporting and communication.
* Maintain compliance with quality regulations and identify gaps with the Quality Manager.
* Manage IT assets across departments, including ordering equipment and supplies.
* Advisory on IT policies/regulations and plan system changes for compliance or upgrades.
Job responsibilities
* Lead procurement, monitoring, and cost improvement of all Pathology IT assets.
* Collaborate with Trust IT to align pathology infrastructure with Trust strategy.
* Evaluate and score new IT systems for functionality and cost‑effectiveness.
* Write and present system manager reports at monthly meetings.
* Conduct investigations as a lead investigator and report to the Information Governance Team.
Qualifications and knowledge
* Degree or relevant experience and knowledge.
* Masters or equivalent experience.
* Significant experience in Pathology IT systems.
* Knowledge of NHS / Pathology business functions and terminology.
* Expertise in complex data extraction and presentation using Excel, Access or Business Objects.
* Deep knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
* Knowledge of change control processes.
* Windows and Cisco certifications.
* Understanding of Prince2 (or equivalent) project management methodology.
* Familiarity with education, training and improvement theory and methodologies.
Experience
* Experience in devising and delivering training sessions.
* Achievement of system compliance with ISO 15189, BSQR and HTA.
* Knowledge of national and local IMT application developments in acute healthcare.
* Experience evaluating and introducing new technologies and techniques.
* Experience with Pathology laboratory information management systems, preferably Winpath.
* Experience working in a Pathology laboratory.
* Ability to work independently and communicate clearly to all staff levels.
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Ability to concentrate in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
* Experience constructing test scripts and recording outcomes of software releases.
* Experience producing training materials and delivering them to Trust staff.
