We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Orthotist to join our growing team serving the vibrant East Surrey community through our partnership with FirstCommunity Health.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior or aspiring senior Orthotist looking to step up into a more autonomous and varied clinical role. You will be the lead Orthotist supporting services across East Surrey, working with a diverse caseload that includes general adults, paediatrics, and high-risk diabetic foot patients. This mix of specialties makes for a clinically rich and rewarding role.
You will be responsible for assessing, prescribing, and delivering orthotic care across community clinics and multidisciplinary settings, collaborating closely with referrers and other healthcare professionals. The role offers significant autonomy, with opportunities to develop both clinical practice and local services.
Main duties of the job
* Independent patient assessment and treatment planning across a broad range of conditions
* Managing complex high-risk diabetic foot cases as part of an MDT
* Working with children and adults, supporting MSK, neuromuscular, and developmental conditions
* Contributing to service development and best practice initiatives
* Providing mentorship and clinical leadership within the local service

To provide high-quality orthotic care, demonstrating a wide range of knowledge and experience in distinct areas of practice that can be specialist in nature.
Responsibilities
* Cast, measure, fit, and deliver well-fitting orthoses, maintaining their fit and mechanical integrity while meeting the patient's clinical needs
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team at each centre, maintaining professionalism with colleagues, patients, and families
* Participate in Clinical Governance activities, including clinical audit and evidence-based research
* Follow directives from your orthotic manager or other senior staff
* Assess patients' orthotic needs and meet these needs using your clinical skills, seeking advice when necessary
* Manage a full patient caseload across all areas of orthotics and treatment complexities
* Take accurate measurements and produce well-fitting orthoses with minimal remakes
* Align orthoses to ensure optimal gait and deliver within the contract timeframes
* Adhere to the company's Quality system, ensuring all paperwork and jobsheets are completed accurately and promptly
* Ensure all clinical records are kept confidential and secure, complying with data protection laws
* Support service improvement initiatives and clinical audits
* Supervise P&O students and junior staff, supporting their professional development
* Deliver lectures and presentations to students and healthcare professionals as required
* Maintain current technical knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development

Qualifications
* Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics
Experience
* Excellent communication and MDT collaboration skills
* Passion for service innovation and outcomes
* HCPC-registered Orthotist with strong clinical reasoning and patient-centered care ethos
* Experience managing complex caseloads, including paediatrics and diabetic foot, is preferable
