Family Support Worker
The Family Support Service delivers statutory and non-statutory assessments and family support interventions to children and families of all ages across the borough. The Family Units are led by Consultant Social Workers or a Family Support Team Leader who support and direct the delivery of outcome-focused family support aimed at helping children to safely remain within their families and engage positively with community services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the assessment of children and families through observation, direct work, interviews, and gathering information from various sources to contribute to holistic assessments of children's needs.
2. Establish rapport and build respectful relationships with children, families, and their support networks, ensuring their views and wishes are heard and accurately recorded.
3. Communicate effectively with other agencies, incorporating their professional views into assessments and plans, working collaboratively in the best interests of children.
4. Work with families in their homes or other settings to monitor, assess risk, and assist in implementing support plans using evidence-based methodologies, offering practical help to enable families to help themselves and supporting adults in their parenting roles.
5. Work independently and, when appropriate, as the lead professional with families, making decisions about tasks and their impact on the family.
6. Report any concerns regarding parenting quality or the safety and well-being of children to your line manager.
Experience and Skills:
* Relevant and substantial experience of direct work with children and families.
* A good understanding of child development in relation to parenting capacity, family, and environmental factors.
* Ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors in families and communities.
* Ability to establish rapport and build professional relationships with children and families.
Qualifications:
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent child and family training.
