Company Description Metaltech Precision, part of the Expromet Technologies Group, provides high-precision CNC machining and fabrication solutions for performance-critical sectors, including aerospace, defence, energy, rail, and marine. From its 50,000 sq. ft. facility in Chard, Somerset, the company delivers complex machined and fabricated components using extensive in-house capabilities such as CNC turning, milling, five‑axis machining, fabrication, assembly, finishing, and CMM inspection. Metaltech works to exacting standards, supported by AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and JOSCAR accreditations, as well as automated processes and dedicated machining cells. The business is committed to sustainability through investments in renewable energy and lean, environmentally responsible practices, and benefits from Expromet’s broader engineering expertise and global reach to support demanding customer requirements.
Role Description This is a full‑time, on‑site Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programmer role based at Metaltech Precision’s facility in Chard. The CMM Programmer is responsible for creating, modifying, and optimizing CMM programs to inspect complex machined and fabricated components in line with customer drawings, models, and specifications. Day‑to‑day tasks include setting up and operating CMM equipment, selecting appropriate probes and fixturing, and performing first‑off, in‑process, and final inspections. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T, generating clear inspection reports, and communicating measurement results to production, engineering, and quality teams. The CMM Programmer will also contribute to troubleshooting dimensional issues, supporting root cause investigations, maintaining calibration and inspection records, and participating in continuous improvement activities to enhance quality, efficiency, and repeatability.

* Proficiency in the use of gauges and measurement tools, and ability to select appropriate gauges for specific inspection tasks.
* Solid background in inspection, quality control, and measurement techniques within a precision machining or fabrication environment.
* Understanding of calibration requirements, processes, and record‑keeping for CMMs and associated measuring equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Experience working to recognized quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and contributing to nonconformance investigations and corrective actions.
* Competence with MS Office and quality/inspection reporting software; familiarity with CAD/CAM interfaces for CMM programming is an advantage.
* Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering
