ABOUT BOSWORTH INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
Bosworth Independent School is a relatively small school of approximately 300 students. JOB OVERVIEW
Physics Technician
Term Time Only + 2 weeks
Someone who understands Physics and has an aptitude to learning the role as a Physics Technician with some GCSE work in all three sciences.
Need to be able to work about 30 hours a week over 4 or 5 days. Thursday and Friday must be covered, start time not important but must work until 4pm on both those days.
Preparation, delivery and clearing of A Level and GCSE Physics practical’s
Liaising with Teachers to plan Physics practicals.
Produce Physics practical templates on Lab Logger.
Constructing and modifying apparatus for practical work.
Repair (or arrange for the repair/replacement of) Physics equipment.
Keep the Physics prep room organised.
Stocktaking Physics equipment
Keep an up-to-date stock list on Lab Logger of Physics equipment.
Liaise with the Senior Science Technician regarding the day to day running of the Prep Room.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure equipment is available as requested on the Lab Logger requisition, given the minimum requisition time.
Checking and returning equipment to stores.
Stand in for absent technicians when possible
Help the RPS organise and maintain the radioactive sources and ensure they are booked in and out correctly by teaching staff.
Maintain routine checks on regularly used equipment e.g. fuses in power supplies, fuses in meters.
Maintain equipment, repair broken equipment or arrange repair if necessary/possible.
General organisation and cleaning with daily checks to ensure areas are clean and tidy.
Washing up and emptying and loading dishwasher
Maintain physics laboratories, ensuring they are fully equipped and safe to work in
Check first aid boxes monthly
Replenish stationery and broken glassware/equipment as needed - at the request of the teacher or by own initiative.
Keep shelves in prep room, labs and storerooms clean and tidy.
Carry out health and safety checks in laboratories, preparation rooms and stores
Deal with blocked, old or broken apparatus as per individual request by teachers.
Monitor the use of resources, help maintain records of used and bought chemicals and equipment. Liaise with Senior Science Technician when further supplies are needed.
Liaising with academic staff/ senior science technician /other technicians to discuss timetables, equipment requirements/clashes and work plans.
Keep a log of all equipment using lab logger
Stocktaking equipment annually.
Sourcing and collecting consumable products locally.
Ensure Senior Science Technician is informed of all purchases and provided with the receipt for all purchases using the Soldo card.
Attend necessary training courses, when possible.
Liaise with the Senior Science Technician to complete the annual safety checks in laboratories and prep room
Maintain a list of items for Pat Testing on Lab Logger and get those items out prior to PAT testing being completed.
Follow ‘TECHNICIAN GUIDE - A WORKING GUIDE FOR ALL TECHNICIANS’.
Inform relevant staff about any Health and Safety concerns.
Keep up to date with CLEAPSS requirements. Keep up to date with relevant procedures and practices, with current health and safety regulations by attending courses, reading relevant literature etc.
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school. Work as part of the team and undertake any other reasonable activities requested by the Head of Department and senior technician, commensurate with the post.
