Job Summary
The Laboratory Medicine department currently has a vacancy for a Specialist Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Point of Care Section. The role requires a friendly, cheerful person who is practical, has an interest in science, and is comfortable working with and training a variety of staffing groups across the hospital. The successful candidate will be based in Laboratory Medicine but will visit and support point of care services in clinical areas across the Trust.
The position is full time (37.5 hours per week) with part‑time options considered, and will be supported with the necessary training and competency maintenance. Previous medical laboratory experience is desirable, but full training will be provided. The successful candidate will be literate, numerate and have excellent keyboard skills. Sponsorship cannot be provided for this position.
Main Duties
The post holder will work under both direct and indirect supervision on wards and in departments that use POCT devices. Key duties include learning and maintaining good laboratory practice to support an efficient, safe service for users and patients.
