GEOSPATIAL DATA SCIENTIST ROLE (Junior & Senior)
Overview:
BirdsEyeView is an InsurTech venture based in London. They build Natural Catastrophe Modelling software for reinsurance and insurers worldwide. Their software enables modeling of floods, wildfires, cyclones, and more.
Their technology includes climate data infrastructure, scalable development, and machine learning for data cleansing and ingestion, helping underwriters assess climate-related risks.
About the role
You will support the development of Natural Peril models for the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform, which provides climate and weather analytics to insurance partners to assess exposure and improve underwriting.
You will join a team of scientists, developers, and insurance experts, impacting business applications and product development. This role is ideal for someone interested in climate and geospatial data, technology development, and the insurance industry.
The role offers growth opportunities and involvement in various business areas.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support strategy and implementation for WEATHER ANALYTIX platform.
* Process meteorological datasets via partnership with the European Space Agency.
* Develop global wildfire, hurricane, tornado, lightning, earthquake, and flood models.
* Collaborate with Business Development to define and deliver new products.
* Select and implement technology solutions for current and future needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or related field; Master's preferred.
* 2+ years experience for Junior/Mid role, 4+ years for Mid/Senior role.
* Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and machine learning.
* Experience with large geospatial datasets.
* Knowledge of statistical and data science techniques.
* Understanding of web system architecture.
* Ability to work independently with good project management skills.
Nice to Have:
* Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, AWS.
* Experience with ERA5/Climate Data.
* Experience with MLOps.
* Knowledge of Insurance Market.
