Job Introduction

Our Business Support team in Children’s Services provides high‑quality administrative and operational support that underpins the delivery of education services across Milton Keynes.

We manage complex processes, maintain accurate records, support statutory requirements, and act as a key point of contact for schools, families, and professionals. Our work ensures that services run efficiently, enabling frontline colleagues to focus on achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.

In this role, you’ll provide high‑level administrative support across a range of specialist areas, helping the service meet its key performance indicators and statutory duties. You’ll also act as a professional first point of contact, supporting colleagues, partners, and service users with accurate and timely information.

This is a role for someone with strong administrative experience who can manage complex tasks, prioritise effectively, and work collaboratively across teams.

This is a Full time – Fixed Term – 12 months.

Site‑Based role

On joining this role, you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

At Milton Keynes City Council, we aim to make a difference every day. We’re dedicated, respectful and collaborative. We act as one council, and we work hard to create cleaner, safer and healthier communities while tackling inequalities and supporting people to thrive.

  • Provide high‑level administrative support across Children’s Services, managing complex processes and maintaining accurate records to support service delivery.
  • Act as a professional first point of contact for service users, schools, families and partner organisations.
  • Support service improvements by working closely with colleagues, sharing best practice and contributing to team development.
  • Maintain specialist information and support projects and initiatives that improve services for children and young people.
  • Process financial information including invoicing and payments, ensuring compliance with council procedures and accurate record keeping.
  • Work flexibly across the Business Support team, providing cover, supporting colleagues and contributing to a one council approach.

Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to NVQ level three or equivalent, or able to demonstrate significant administrative experience within a relevant field.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and able to quickly learn and use a range of systems and databases.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and manage competing demands.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring colleagues and contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care and professionalism.
  • A collaborative approach, demonstrating our values of being dedicated, respectful and a great team player.

Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.

As part of the pre‑employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out a Basis Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
