Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and hardworking team of paediatric orthopaedic surgeons. This post represents full time locum maternity leave cover for 12 months. You will be joining a group of four established Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants. UHNM Children's Hospital provides secondary level paediatric orthopaedic services to the children and young people of North Midlands, and tertiary care to those in the wider region and beyond. In addition, we support the care of children with complex health needs, working closely with colleagues from other specialties. UHNM is a Major Trauma Centre that serves the population of Staffordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire and North Wales.
The post holder will be based at the Royal Stoke Hospital but may be requested to hold regular elective clinics at County Hospital, Stafford. The Royal Stoke Hospital has a dedicated Surgical Children's Ward (217), PICU and Children's theatres. We are seeking fellowship trained candidates well versed in the generality of Paediatric Orthopaedics and Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to a 1:10 major trauma on call rota. The Directorate works closely with the prestigious Keele Medical School and there will be an opportunity for the post holder to contribute to medical student teaching. We also have a vast network of allied health professionals. The post holder will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. All Consultants are involved in planning and developing the service.
Responsibilities
* Provide paediatric orthopaedic and paediatric orthopaedic trauma clinical services as part of a four-consultant team.
* Contribute to a 1:10 major trauma on‑call rota.
* Deliver elective clinics as requested at Royal Stoke Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford.
* Participate in planning, development and governance of the service; contribute to teaching and supervision of trainees and medical students where applicable.
* Collaborate with a wide network of allied health professionals and other specialties.
* Help manage and administer workload within the Department.
Qualifications
* Fellowship-trained in Paediatric Orthopaedics and Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma.
* Competent in the generality of paediatric orthopaedics and trauma management.
