Salary
£66,100 – £99,100 + company car / car allowance + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits supporting finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
The SSEN Transmission Western Isles Offshore Delivery team is recruiting a Lead Project Manager to lead the delivery of the HVDC Land Cable package, directly supporting Scotland’s net‑zero ambitions. The role involves developing delivery and procurement strategies, award and management throughout delivery, stakeholder relationship development, and planning, implementation and delivery of the execution phase. The Project Manager will collaborate across the supply chain, manage internal and external interfaces, and guide the project team to secure safe delivery in line with the business case.
Responsibilities
- Accountable to the Business for the safety, health and wellbeing of all personnel, and environment aspects, including compliance with framework behaviour charters and CDM regulations.
- Lead and drive the development of positive internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Lead the preparation of regulatory submissions to secure project funding and be accountable for the delivery within scope and timeframe.
- Plan, monitor and control projects or packages in line with the Project Execution Plan(s) and Procurement and Commercial Strategy to ensure safe, on‑schedule, high‑quality delivery, completing contract management.
- Ensure the project adheres to Safety Management Systems, best practices and SSE Large Capital Projects governance processes.
- Lead, mentor and line‑manage direct reports, ensuring a competent, motivated, and organised team that demonstrates core values.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of safely delivering packages of work or projects to cost, schedule and quality in the Transmission, Construction, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or wider utilities sector.
- People management experience and a passion for safety, with an understanding of project management methodology and practice to lead a multi‑discipline team to success; coupled with an engineering, construction or project management qualification/degree, or equivalent experience.
- Engineering or construction knowledge and understanding, including environmental and safety legislation (e.g. CDM 2015 regulations) and contractual management experience (NEC3 preferable), with ability to forecast and control costs and develop integrated project programmes.
- Experience of governance, reporting and management requirements for projects or programmes in regulated environments; prior budget responsibilities ideally £100m+ and confidence in managing multiple project execution issues while analysing and prioritising key delivery risks and issues.
- Open and collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships across diverse teams and locations.
