Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire Category: Service Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full-Time Salary: £35,000 - £48,000 OTE (uncapped) About the Role A leading automotive retailer in the South and South-West, operating numerous franchised sites across the region, is seeking an experienced Workshop Controller to join an established service team in Portsmouth. This is a key position focused on ensuring the smooth, efficient, and compliant operation of a busy workshop. What You'll Be Doing As Workshop Controller, you will oversee the workflow of the workshop and ensure that all vehicle repairs and servicing are assigned, completed to high standards, and delivered on time. You'll act as the central point of coordination between technicians, service advisors, and other departments Your daily responsibilities will include: Maintaining quality control by ensuring correct parts are ordered, auditing completed work, and monitoring compliance. Supporting the department in achieving its profit objectives. Managing and coaching a team of technicians and apprentices to meet performance targets and business goals. Working closely with colleagues across the dealership to maintain a smooth and customer-focused service. Scheduling work to meet customer needs, considering workshop capacity, job complexity, and parts availability. Providing estimates for repairs and servicing and setting accurate timescales. Assisting technicians with technical challenges and identifying suitable solutions. Ensuring all work complies with DVSA requirements, health and safety regulations, manufacturer standards, and internal policies. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will bring: Relevant City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ, or equivalent qualifications. Previous experience within the automotive industry, preferably in workshop control or as a technician. Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to delegate effectively and motivate a team. Good IT proficiency. High attention to detail. Strong communication skills across all levels, both face-to-face and via email. Confident decision-making abilities and a proactive approach to problem solving, especially under pressure.
