An opportunity has arisen for an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to provide support to the Radiotherapy Physics Service at Singleton Hospital
THIS POST IS A SECONDMENT FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO FUNDING
The post is offered as an Annex 21 position for applicants who do not hold the full qualifications and will be considered for a trainee position and will be subject to NHS Wales Annex 21 as set out within the NHS Wales Terms & Conditions of Employment.
Main duties of the job
The main role of this post is to provide advanced support to all aspects of the work of the Radiotherapy Physics Service and undertake specialist clinical and scientific activities in support of the delivery of the departments machine quality assurance programme.
The post will provide the holder with continuing opportunities to progress within the field of Radiotherapy Physics leading to recognition as a Medical Physics Expert. The post holder will at times be assigned to specific projects managed by a Principal/Consultant Clinical Scientist and will contribute to relevant research and development projects within Radiotherapy Physics, preparing and presenting scientific reports. Research and development is a significant commitment of this post, accounting typically for at least 10% of the time. The post holder will be expected to routinely work a typical pattern of two weekends per month.

Essential criteria
1. Accredited MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent
2. Registration as a Clinical Scientist (with HCPC)
Desirable criteria
3. Working towards or holding a PhD by research or equivalent experience

4. Specialist training on and practical experience of a wide range of radiotherapy equipment and computer applications
5. Specialist training on and general practical experience of linear accelerators, treatment planning systems and dosimetry techniques
6. Participation in research or development projects
Desirable criteria
7. Experience of a specialist area (e.g., VMAT/IMRT, IGRT, radiotherapy imaging, Radiotherapy IT, film dosimetry, EPID dosimetry, electron treatment, treatment planning site specialisation, Monte Carlo modelling, in vivo dosimetry, clinical trials etc.)
8. Evidence of development and implementation of clinical capabilities using new technologies

9. Evidence of scientific writing skills (e.g., papers, reports and/or protocols)
10. Ability to undertake research and development
11. Ability to prioritise tasks, activities and manage own work and supervise that of others
12. High level of physical skills with ability to perform scientific work, including measurement and adjustment with a high degree of accuracy and precision on highly-complex patient-critical equipment

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
