Role: Project Engineering Director – HVDC Cables Location: UK & Germany (Hybrid) Role Overview The Project Engineering Director – HVDC Cables provides senior technical leadership for the execution of large-scale HVDC cable system projects (submarine and land), from tender through commissioning. The role ensures safe, compliant, and profitable delivery of complex EPC/EPCI projects while serving as the highest engineering authority within the project organization. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership Lead all engineering activities for HVDC cable systems (±320kV to ±525kV). Govern design reviews, technical risk management, and engineering quality. Act as final technical decision authority on assigned projects. Project Delivery Oversee cable system design (XLPE/MI), accessories, route engineering, and installation engineering. Ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. Manage technical interfaces with converter OEMs such as Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, and GE Vernova. Tender & System Integration Support bid development with optimized, risk-balanced technical solutions. Lead system integration and interface management across converter stations, offshore platforms, and civil works. Manufacturing & Testing Align engineering with manufacturing capability and qualification testing programs (type tests, PQT, FAT). Client Engagement Serve as senior technical representative to utilities, TSOs, and developers. Support executive-level technical discussions and dispute resolution. Qualifications Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 15 years in HV/EHV/HVDC cable systems. Proven leadership in large (>€500M) HVDC projects. Deep expertise in HVDC cable design, thermal rating, insulation coordination, and offshore installation.
