Overview
As part of the Design Team within the Regeneration Service the role contributes by providing an effective Clerk of Works and Principal Designer (Health and Safety) function. The successful candidate will be part of a seventeen-strong team with a diverse skill set working on a wide range of construction, design, and feasibility projects. This is a construction-based inspection, reporting and advisory role, which also includes responsibilities within a directorate which is responsible for Northumberland County Council's Corporate Landlord duties. The work involves improving community, school, leisure, office and other NCC-owned buildings, and no working week is the same in this team.
The role will provide a construction inspection and reporting service by ensuring safe construction sites and working practices, and that projects are carried out as per designs and in accordance with Building Safety Act requirements. The successful candidate will work with appointed project team members in an accurate and efficient manner and will be capable of using the relevant reporting software. This post is based at County Hall, Morpeth, with the option of agreed days for home working, and may require daily travel throughout the County of Northumberland; candidates must meet the transport requirements.
We are looking for a good communicator with interpersonal skills, a proven ability to engage with people at all levels and a high level of attention to detail.
Requirements of the Job
* NVQ/SVQ Site Inspection Level 4 or similar, SMSTS qualification; NEBOSH; CSCS - Management; a foundation degree or equivalent technical qualification in a building construction or related discipline; membership of the Institute of Clerk of Works or equivalent professional body.
* Excellent knowledge of Building Safety Act requirements, site H&S requirements and in-depth knowledge of the Building Regulations. Qualified to carry out construction-related risk assessments.
* Intermediate MS Office skills (to prepare regular reports including uploading photos). Ability to read and interpret construction plans and details.
* Regular need to travel to construction sites and work outdoors in all weathers, sometimes in muddy and/or frozen conditions. A current UK driving licence. Able to meet the transport arrangements of the position.
