Senior Vegetation Environment Artist Dambuster Studios - creators of the number one BAFTA-nominated smash hit Dead Island 2 - has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Vegetation Environment Artist to join our highly talented Art team. Role overview As a Senior Vegetation Artist, you’ll play a pivotal role in crafting high-quality vegetation that enhances both the visual direction and gameplay experience of our projects. You’ll work closely with the Lead Environment Artist, Art Director, and other disciplines — including technical artists and external partners — to ensure assets are functional, visually compelling, and meet our production standards. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and strong collaboration skills. We can offer this role on a hybrid basis with the offered candidate being on-site 2-3 days per week. Responsibilities Create high-quality environmental vegetation artwork that aligns with the project’s artistic direction and visual targets. Collaborate with art and technical art teams to ensure vegetation runs efficiently and meets performance standards. Build grey-box vegetation in preparation for outsourcing. Plan and communicate vegetation requirements to internal artists and outsourcing vendors. Document vegetation art processes, techniques, and guidelines. Follow and help maintain best practices for vegetation asset organisation. Support and mentor fellow our internal and external teams. Produce a wide range of vegetation assets (low to very high poly) tailored to different areas of the game. Research and understand vegetation biomes based on the game’s location. Requirements Essential: Strong understanding of modern game art toolsets, including but not limited to Unreal Engine 5, Substance, Quixel, ZBrush, Photoshop, and 3ds Max. Solid grasp of the environment art pipeline and core artistic fundamentals such as proportion, composition, and colour. Proven experience creating vegetation art for video games. Ability to produce benchmark-quality content to establish visual direction for internal and external teams. Excellent communication skills to guide and support internal and external artists on vegetation workflows. Able to take a brief and deliver high-quality work that meets both artistic and technical standards. Self-motivated and open to feedback and creative direction from leadership. Desirable: Experience with the latest Unreal Engine vegetation techniques, including Nanite and Procedural Content Generation. Experience using procedural software to create vegetation content. Technical understanding of skinning and animation is useful to have but not required.
