The Role

Are you an experienced Labour Ward Midwife looking to take the next step in your clinical leadership career? We are looking for a highly motivated, compassionate, and expert Registered Midwife to join our dynamic and developing leadership team as a Charge Midwife on the Labour Suite.

Our maternity services provide care for over 12,000 women annually across three large obstetric‑led units. We are committed to delivering safe, effective, and person‑centred care in line with The Best Start national strategy. As a Charge Midwife, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day coordination of the Labour Suite, providing strong clinical leadership and expert midwifery practice. You will ensure high standards of care, act as a role model to staff, and work within the multi‑disciplinary team to deliver a positive and safe environment for women, families, and staff.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity Unit
* Permanent contract
* Part‑time position (35.5 hours per week)
* Shift pattern: 12 hours, days and nights
* Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time posts


Key Responsibilities

* Clinical Leadership: coordinating the shift, managing workload, and redeploying staff to meet changing needs.
* Safety & Governance: ensuring compliance with NHSGGC policies, clinical governance, and managing risks.
* Mentorship: supporting and educating junior staff, students, and the wider team.
* Expert Care: providing direct, high‑quality care to women with complex needs in high‑risk settings.


Qualifications, Training, and Experience

You will be a registered Midwife on the NMC Register, likely educated to degree level, with significant post‑registration experience (typically 5 years) in a relevant acute area.
