Job Summary
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a modern, forward‑thinking teaching hospital offering acute care to a population of over 1 million. Electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) has been implemented across all inpatient wards, the Emergency Department and outpatients. The Pharmacy Department delivers comprehensive pharmaceutical services across the Trust and external community units. It is a large and busy department with over 180 staff across pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, administrators, clerical staff and apprentices. The department is at the forefront of healthcare delivery with a strong focus on medicines management and innovative practice.
Main Duties
You should be an established Pharmacy Technician looking for a new challenge or a newly registered / soon to be registered, within 6 months, Pharmacy Technician wishing to develop and enhance your practice and skills. This Band 4 role offers the opportunity to progress to Band 5 through support, training and assessment, gaining final accuracy checking (ACPT) accreditation, medicines management skills, patient counselling, drug history taking and medicines reconciliation. You will work in a large, busy dispensary and at ward level, contributing to the pharmacy and multidisciplinary team in a high‑pressure environment.

Job Responsibilities
* Organise and undertake the dispensing and distribution of all medicines against a clinically checked prescription or request in line with departmental policies and the Medicines Act 1965 using the JAC computer system.
* Dispense controlled drugs against recognised orders in line with departmental policies and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 using the JAC system.
* Maintain documentation to support the dispensing of all medicines including CDs.
* Assist in the replacement of dispensary stock, including ordering, receipt and maintenance of stock records.
* Issue medicines to all outpatients attending the Pharmacy Department, providing appropriate advice and counselling.
* Provide, in conjunction with the appropriate Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians, a medicines management service on specified wards.
* Check patients’ own drugs (PODs) in accordance with SOPs to ascertain suitability and ensure a continued supply.
* Ensure medicines are supplied to allocated wards as required for specific patients according to SOPs.
* Undertake drug history taking with the Clinical Pharmacist on specified wards.
* Escalate any discrepancies to the appropriate Clinical Pharmacist.
Person Specification
Essential
* Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician, or will be registered within the next 6 months.
* Level 3/4 Pharmacy Technician qualification.
* Accurately dispense medicines (hospital, community or GP dispensing practice).
* Ability to work under pressure.

Desirable
* Accredited Final Accuracy Checking.
