Job Description
We are seeking a talented and experienced Second Chef to join our culinary team in Loughborough, United Kingdom. As the Second Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, creating innovative menus, and maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.
* Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and staff management
* Develop and execute new menu items in collaboration with the culinary team
* Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain kitchen hygiene standards
* Manage inventory, place orders, and control food costs
* Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to improve their skills and efficiency
* Prepare and cook high-quality dishes for service
* Assist in menu planning and recipe development
* Step in for the Head Chef when necessary
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of kitchen processes and procedures
* Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction
Qualifications
* Culinary degree or diploma from a recognized institution
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a high-volume restaurant or hotel setting
* Proven experience in a leadership role within a kitchen environment
* Strong culinary skills and expertise in various cooking techniques and cuisines
* Excellent knowledge of food safety practices and current health and hygiene regulations
* Valid food safety certification
* Proficiency in menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
* Creativity and passion for culinary innovation
* Physical stamina to work long hours in a fast-paced kitchen environment
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
* Knowledge of dietary restrictions and ability to accommodate special meal requests
* Proficiency in kitchen management software and inventory systems is a plus
