Our client is a growing organisation in the banking sector, supporting customers across mortgages, savings, and business finance. With a focus on accessibility and innovation, they are on an exciting journey to strengthen their legal team and are now seeking a Legal Counsel to support the Head of Legal. The role The Legal Counsel will play a key role in providing both strategic and hands-on legal advice across a variety of projects. The focus will be on technology and commercial contracts, working closely with stakeholders across the business as well as with external suppliers and partners. Key responsibilities Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including outsourcing, IT, agency, marketing, and supply contracts. Provide legal advice on commercial issues relating to banking operations, data protection, and financial services regulations. Support the Head of Legal on multiple projects and collaborate with procurement and other business teams to deliver initiatives. Contribute to the development of templates, playbooks, and training for internal teams. Identify and manage legal risks, offering clear and pragmatic advice to protect the business. Keep up to date with relevant legal and regulatory developments and share best practice across the organisation. Your profile Strong knowledge of commercial legal and regulatory issues impacting the banking industry. Experience drafting and negotiating IT and outsourcing contracts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, licences, framework agreements). Confident project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders. Capable of working independently, with in-house experience preferred but not essential.
