A prestigious and high-achieving secondary school in Manchester is seeking a strategic and technically skilled Facilities Manager to oversee the operational management of the school estate. This is a senior support role for a professional who thrives on managing complex infrastructure and ensuring a world-class learning environment. You will lead a team of site staff and cleaners, managing significant budgets and coordinating major capital projects to enhance the school's facilities. Key Responsibilities Strategic Oversight: Developing and implementing a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule for all school buildings and plant machinery. Health & Safety Leadership: Serving as the school’s "Competent Person" for Health and Safety, ensuring total compliance with COSHH, RIDDOR, and Fire Safety legislation. Project Management: Overseeing large-scale refurbishments and capital works, from the initial tendering process to final site sign-off. Budget Management: Controlling the premises budget, negotiating with utility providers, and identifying energy-efficiency initiatives to reduce the school’s carbon footprint. Team Leadership: Managing, training, and performing appraisals for the site team, cleaning staff, and catering contractors. Security & Lettings: Managing the school’s security strategy and coordinating the community use of facilities (evening and weekend lettings). The Ideal Candidate Will Have Proven experience in facilities management, ideally within an educational or large-scale public sector environment. A relevant professional qualification (e.g., IWFM, NEBOSH, or IOSH Managing Safely ). Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage diverse teams and external contractors. Exceptional organisational skills and a high level of financial literacy.
