Overview
Technician role at The University of Sheffield. This is a 3-year project led by Prof. Munitta Muthana within the School of Medicine and Population Health, University of Sheffield’s Medical School.
Base pay range
The University of Sheffield provides a salary range based on skills and experience. Salary details: £32,080 – £36,636. Grade: 6. Work arrangement: Full-time. Duration: 3 years, start date October 2025.
Responsibilities
* Design, execute and evaluate experiments
* Keep excellent experimental records
* Prepare reports regularly and feed back to other members of the research group
* Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, attend and deliver seminars/lab meetings
* Help supervise undergraduate and MSc students
* Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post
Person specification / Qualifications
* Essential: Degree or Higher National Diploma in a relevant scientific/engineering field (or equivalent experience)
* Essential: Extensive practical and theoretical experience in human or bacterial cell culture growth and manipulation
* Essential: Experience designing experiments and robust data analysis using appropriate statistical methods
* Essential: Ability to update and acquire new skills and knowledge; technical expertise relevant to the subject area
* Essential: Knowledge of and compliance with good laboratory practice
* Essential: Awareness of laboratory safety and general laboratory competence
* Essential: Effective written and verbal communication skills
* Essential: Experience preparing and delivering presentations and reports on data
* Essential: Ability to work independently and/or in a multidisciplinary team to meet deadlines
* Essential: Ability to assist and support research students, PDRAs, staff and visiting researchers
* Essential: Generic IT skills (Microsoft Office, Prism)
* Essential: Good organisational and time management skills with accurate records
* Desirable: Practical and theoretical experience in bioengineering
* Desirable: Expertise in oncolytic viruses and microbial cell culture
