Job overview


We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team and support the educational development of our pupils. This role is ideal for someone with experience in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, who is passionate about fostering a positive learning environment and enhancing children's academic and personal growth.

Role: Learning Support Assistant (This role is a 1-Year Fixed Term Contract)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with 30-minute unpaid for lunch, although flexibility in working arrangements will be required.

This role is Term Time (35 weeks per year to include INSET days) plus 1 week to be worked during school holidays, with at least 2 days to be worked in the summer holidays

Key Responsibilities:

* Support for Pupils: Assist pupils with their learning, helping them to become more independent and engaged in both social and academic activities. Provide one-to-one or small group support as directed by the class teacher.
* Liaison with Teachers: Collaborate with teachers to support lesson planning and delivery, and offer feedback on pupils' progress. Help maintain a consistent approach to behaviour management and classroom responsibilities.
* Curriculum Support: Work across all areas of the curriculum, ensuring children have the necessary support to thrive. Stay informed on child protection and health and safety legislation. Participate in school trips and events as required.
* School Support: Take part in the supervision of pupils during break and lunchtime. Attend staff meetings, training, and parent evenings. Support the values and ethos of the school.
* Extra-Curricular Opportunities: Lead or assist with extra-curricular activities such as lunchtime clubs or after-school programs, contributing to the broader enrichment of the pupils.
* Required Experience & Skills:
* Proven experience supporting children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both staff and pupils.
* A proactive and caring approach to supporting children in their learning and personal development.
* Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
* Additional Information:
* This role may involve attending residential trips, and occasional duties outside of term time (including two days during the summer holiday).
* Training will be provided, including first aid certification.

Haberdashers' Boys' School is a large independent school located in the village of Elstree, Hertfordshire. Founded in 1690, the all-through school educates around 1,200 boys aged 5-18, all of whom are day pupils.

The School has a selective admissions policy, with prospective students for the senior school expected to pass entrance exams across a range of subjects. The best-performing boys are interviewed to ascertain their suitability for a place at the School. Entrance to the pre-prep and prep departments is also selective, with assessed playgroup sessions and exams used depending on the boy's age.

In addition, teachers can request specific training which is often run in well attended Twilight Training sessions at the end of a school day. The School operates an 'open door' approach with teachers regularly observing and learning from each other.
