Contract : Maternity Leave cover, fixed term 9 months cover required ( 1.6.2026-1.3.2027 ) 7 day 12 hour shift pattern
Department : Based at Mile End Community Diagnostic Centre and rotational in the Networked Ultrasound services (The Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals).
We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible, hardworking and caring Imaging Assistants to join our friendly and well supported Ultrasound team at Mile End Community Diagnostic centre & Networked ultrasound service, The Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hopsitals which are part of Barts Health NHS Trust.
As a member of our busy and dynamic department your central role would be to provide the highest quality and efficient 7 day 12 hour service.
You would do this by assisting the Sonographers and Radiologists with various duties including managing patient flow ,chaperone patients across a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including: General Abdominal, Gynaecological, Head and Neck, Musculoskeletal, Vascular and Neonatal Hip ultrasound examinations.
You are required to assist with medical Ultrasound procedures such as biopsies and musculoskeletal steroid injections.

Main duties of the job

As a member of our busy and dynamic department your vital role would be to provide the highest quality care for patients referred to our service.
You would do this by assisting the Sonographers and Radiologists with the provision of a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including General Abdominal, Gynaecological, Head and Neck, Musculoskeletal, Vascular and Neonatal Hip ultrasound examinations. You may also assist with medical procedures such as biopsies and musculoskeletal steroid injections. Your main duties would be to assist with the organization and care on the in-patient ultrasound service.
The post holder would be expected to manage DNA and assist with booking of IP scans and procedures in ultrasound.

Essential criteria

1. General Education to Include English
2. GCSE (5 grades- A-C)

Desirable criteria

3. NVQ or equivalent in Health Studies
4. HCSW qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Experience working in a healthcare environment
6. Experience of dealing with stressful and emotionally charged situations.

Desirable criteria

7. Previous experience working in a Radiology Department

Skills

Essential criteria

8. High level inter-personal and communications skills.
9. Ability to work within set times working to priorities and deadlines
10. Able to communicate and work collaboratively with other disciplines
11. Organized and efficient in their work
