Alternatives Product Organization | Private Markets
State Street is making a multi-year strategic investment in Private Markets. To support this transformation, the Alternatives Product organization is seeking a Managing Director, Head of Alternatives Product Development to partner closely with the Global Head of Alternatives and senior product and technology leadership.
This role is a senior program and delivery leadership position, responsible for driving execution across the Alternatives product and technology portfolio. The Head of Alternatives Product Development will establish and run a best-in-class program management office that ensures strategic initiatives are translated into disciplined delivery, measurable outcomes, and executive-level transparency.
The role focuses exclusively on program governance, product and platform delivery oversight, and executive enablement. Acting as a central point of coordination across Product, Technology, Finance, Risk, and Operations, the PMO ensures alignment, accountability, and delivery rigor across a complex global organization. The role reports to the Global Head of Alternatives Product Control.
Position Overview
As Managing Director, Head of Alternatives Product Development, you will own the Alternatives delivery and governance framework, providing structure, cadence, and transparency across the Private Markets portfolio. You will oversee execution across multiple strategic initiatives, with a particular emphasis on product platform development, data and technology modernization, and operating model transformation.
A core accountability of this role is end-to-end ownership of executive governance, including financial management and oversight of Investment, preparation of materials and facilitation for Steering Committees and Executive Committees, ensuring clear, concise, and decision-oriented monthly updates.
You will lead a team of PMO and delivery professionals, setting standards for program execution, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
Primary Responsibilities
PMO Leadership & Program Delivery
1. Establish and lead the Alternatives PMO, defining delivery standards, governance processes, and reporting frameworks.
2. Oversee execution across the Alternatives product and technology roadmap, ensuring initiatives are properly scoped, prioritized, and delivered.
3. Drive disciplined delivery across concurrent programs using Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
4. Actively manage interdependencies, risks, issues, and delivery milestones across the portfolio.
5. Lead and develop a team of PMO, delivery, and program professionals to enable consistent execution.
6. Oversight of Investment spend to support the various development initiatives across the business.
Product, Platform & Technology Enablement
7. Partner with Product and Technology leaders to support delivery of Alternatives product platforms, including data, analytics, and P&L-related tooling.
8. Ensure product and technology initiatives are aligned to Private Markets strategy and sequenced for effective delivery.
9. Provide oversight of complex data and systems integration initiatives across Alternatives and Asset Servicing platforms.
10. Apply deep knowledge of alternatives servicing and technology stacks to anticipate delivery risks and constraints.
Governance, Steering & Executive Committees
11. Own preparation and coordination of Steering Committee and Executive Committee materials, including:
Monthly executive updates
Progress against milestones and outcomes
Key risks, issues, and dependencies
Decision requests and escalation items
12. Facilitate governance forums to ensure timely decisions, clear accountability, and issue resolution.
13. Maintain a consistent governance cadence and ensure follow-through on executive actions and decisions.
Stakeholder Management & Alignment
14. Serve as a trusted partner to senior Product, Technology, Finance, Risk, and Operations leaders.
15. Drive cross-functional alignment by ensuring shared understanding of priorities, timelines, and ownership.
16. Proactively surface delivery risks and trade-offs, enabling informed executive decision-making.
17. Ensure consistent messaging and transparency across the Alternatives delivery organization.
Required Skills & Experience
18. Extensive experience leading enterprise PMOs or large-scale transformation programs within financial services.
19. Significant Alternatives and Private Markets experience, including private equity, private credit, real assets, and fund-of-funds.
20. Strong understanding of asset servicing platforms and operating models (Custody, Fund Services).
21. Proven success delivering product and technology transformation initiatives in complex, global environments.
22. Deep familiarity with modern technology and data stacks, including analytics and integration platforms.
23. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-year, multi-workstream programs with senior executive visibility.
24. Strong governance, risk, and dependency management expertise.
25. Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
26. Track record of influencing senior leaders and driving accountability without direct line ownership.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
27. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Technology, or a related field.
28. Significant relevant experience in a PMO, transformation, product delivery, or strategy execution role.
29. Proven experience leading and developing high-performing delivery teams.
30. Demonstrated ability to create executive- and board-level materials, synthesizing complex delivery and technical topics into clear, decision-ready narratives.
31. Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
