Job Purpose: A Social Care opportunity has become available as a Personal Assistant for a young boy aged 9. You will assist with everyday tasks and enable him to take part in activities that he enjoys.
Location: Costessey, NR5.
Details:
* Assisting with personal care (Child is toilet trained and can dress but needs prompting)
* Helping follow daily schedules, transitions between activities, bedtime routines.
* Meal preparation
* Taking child to activities. He likes to go to play centres, the park, and loves trampolines, but dislikes loud noises.
* Supporting life skills such as self-care
Person specification: Listed below are the skills, competencies and qualities that are essential and desirable for the post.
Essential requirements:
* Experience working or volunteering with children in a care, education or support role
* Awareness of autism spectrum disorder and how it impacts daily life.
* Experience using structure and routine to support children
* Ability to recognise and respond to signs of distress or sensory overload
* Ability to remain calm under pressure
* Training in positive Behaviour support or de-escalation techniques
Essential qualifications:
* Previous work or volunteering experience with children with additional needs
* Experience in an autism-specific environment
* Minimum High school diploma/ equivalent
* Safeguarding children training
* Paediatric first aid & CPR certificate
Desirable qualifications:
* NVQ/QCF level 2 or 3 in health and social care, childcare or equivalent
* PECs, Makaton or other communication method training
Summary terms and conditions:
* The rate of pay for this position is £12.38 per hour
* Hours and times of work: up to 3 hours per week, flexible over the weekends.
* The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
* Access to free training for employed workers.
The post is subject to the following:
* A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
* Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
* Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
